Module 2, “Soil and Nutrition: Crops",
begins in unit 2.1 with an in-depth analysis of soils' water storage
properties and their role in the retention and supply of nutrients
to plants.
Unit 2.2 investigates the soil, paddock,
crop and other factors that need to
influence your nutrient decisions.
Units 2.3 through 2.6 focus on the the role of different nutrients
in crop production, answering questions such as:
-
What are macro and micro nutrients required by
plants?
-
What is the specific role of each nutrient in
crop production?
-
How can you manipulate nutrient availability
and correct deficiencies?
-
What are the nutrition 'hot-spots' that will
provide the best feedback on nutritional deficiencies?
The last three units provide an overview of soil
tests for nutrients, salinity and disease,(2.7) plant tests such
as near infra red reflectance (2.8) and a chart for checking your
expected production yields against crop type and rainfall.
